Volunteering Over Spring Break

I am extremely excited for spring break! I can’t wait to see family and friends, go to a St. Patrick’s Day Parade and have a break from classes. A couple of my friends are not going home this week. Instead, they are spending their spring break volunteering. There is an organization at Western New England called Alternative Spring Break in which students apply to go on different trips. This year’s selection includes, Virginia, New Hampshire, and Florida. My two friends, Carly and Kelsey, are going to Radford, Virginia to help with Beans and Rice Inc. which helps at-risk youth in low income areas. I am not personally going on the trip because when applications came out I was extremely busy and did not have time to complete one. Carly and Kelsey have inspired be to become involved with this program next year!

Alternative Spring Break or otherwise known around campus as ASB is a great opportunity to help others in a unique and exciting way by traveling to a different part of the country. Every year ASB goes on three different trips and students apply and are chosen to go on the trip they picked as their top choice. Next year, plan to apply to go on one of the Alternative Spring Break trips and I hope you will as well! This year, as others are at the beach, Carly and Kelsey will be spending their time helping others in need.

Talk to you soon!
Liz
